nostalgia

blasts from the past
I collage. I sketch, I paint (not often). I doodle. I make cards. I still love colouring books. I collect ridiculous amounts of ephemera. I cross-stitch, I even sew. But my enduring obsession is photography.

To be precise, digital photography. I made the move from film to digital many years ago, with no regrets.

And now altered imagery keeps me up late many a night. It starts with a photograph -- itself a work of art even when not perfect -- and then I transform it, manipulate it. Sometimes a little, sometimes quite a lot. I may layer it over another image if the mood strikes; in particular, a texture. I have a fascination with textures such as peeling paint, crumbling sidewalks, rusted surfaces. Image editing software programs (Photoshop, for example) are a wonderful tool in any artist's studio, offering such creative satisfaction. And a never-ending rollercoaster of learning.

My tastes are eclectic. I am drawn to beautiful flowers, rusty old trucks, street signs. Ah yes, signs. I am always attracted to signs. Something to do with my love of words, of the actual letters of the alphabet, I'm sure.

The galleries below highlight some of what has caught my fancy.

And check back often -- new images are added at my whim.

UPDATE: I am now using Flickr to host all my photographs. The galleries are updated frequently so please check often. The links below will take you where you want to go. Enjoy!
